Belize Carnival History In 1975, five women - Ms. Crystal, Ms. June, Ms. Alice, Ms. Maude and Ms. Myrtle - from Sixth Street in the King's Park area of Belize City, were reportedly considering how they could 'spice up' Belize's 10th of September celebrations, and conceptualized the idea of costumed groups dancing through the main streets of Belize City.

The five women first sold the idea to their children, who in turn brought neighborhood friends. Thus started the annual Belize carnival tradition, of costumed dancers prancing through the streets as part of the annual National September celebrations.

Belize Tip
Belize is the only country in Central America, where English is the official language. All the other countries have Spanish as their official language.
